Mixed media: needlepoint stitched to painted stretched canvas, cotton gauze

This project was a total departure from my more usual, bolder color palettes. I wanted to experiment with adding textures to the normally flat needlepoint canvas to make the stitching hidden in some places and stand out in others. While stitching I noticed that splitting the threads of the cotton scrim diffused the colored threads and the textures created a more ethereal quality. The finished stitching over and under the scrim suited this piece exactly.
