Notes from Connie:

I was born in Philadelphia and spent my first 10 years living in the city. Then, when my parents moved our family to the suburbs, they made sure we were still connected to the city’s cultural life by often visiting the famous art museum, the zoo, and Philly’s exquisite parks and gardens. Moving ahead 35 years, my husband and I spent our honeymoon there as “tourists” where we visited all the city’s cultural and historical places, and revisited one of my favorite places, Fairmount Park.

As children, my sisters and I were let loose with the freedom to run and play throughout the park. We had such fun screeching and laughing and listening to our echoes through the beautiful old stone tunnels. I have photos of my mother and my sisters walking through the unbelievable azelia gardens whose bushes were as big as houses and every conceivable azalia color was splashed as far as the eye could see. And one of the most fascinating buildings we could see was the unique city hall with William Penn standing on it’s roof peak.

Today my art celebrates many childhood memories. This one is a watercolor and ink mounted on a 10×20 panel called, “Fairmount Park”. It’s a collaborative piece that includes woodblock prints created by my artist friend, Dennis Gordon .
